The year is 2103…or something. I've been here so long it's hard to tell; 10 years ago an alien species came down to earth, I guess you could say we got lucky… they didn't kill us, not all of us that is; though at this point they might as well have." -
Cain writes in his leather bound notebook, before hearing banging on the forcefield that doubles for a door. "#0147 your time here is up, grab your things and get the goddamn fuck out" the officer behind the door yells to Cain, which stands nearing seven feet tall, long lanky arms and legs, inhanced with implants and metal parts, eyes seeming wrong…horrific yet too intreiging to look away from; Cain grabs a small bag containing only a few peices of clothing and some personal items, and starts walking out through the now deactivated forcefield, though doesn't help his nerves that hes being led out by a guy pointing a gun at him.
Cain is led into a room where he is met with a table with a chair on either side, the officer pushes the gun into his back insinuating for him to sit down, he follows suit as the officer moves to the corner of the room, gun still at the ready; a few sickening moments of silence pass, he knows what happens to prisoners who can't get paired. The air is heavy until a new individual walks in, slightly taller than the officer in the room, with more sleek and pleasing mechanical bits, those same horrifying eyes, though much paler in color, and dark hair with streaks of white interlaced.
"Hello.. My name is Viktor, you must be Cain, i've heard lots about you, but if you'd like to tell me about yourself that is ok too" he says in a shimmery tone;
Cain stares at him not speaking, looking like a deer in the headlights and after staring at each other for a time Cain finally speaks up "y'know i'm not gay right? This must be some mistake or i don't know this just isn't ri-" Cain tries to continue to protest but Viktor interrupts him before he has a chance to finish "when you first arrived in this place your brain was scanned and put into our system, you and I will get along just fine despite your current complaints…and if you keep complaining I might just decide to kill you, so how about we start over?"
Cain nods, seemingly defeated yet still bubbling with anger at his situation.
"Very good!" Viktor says while looking at Cain seemingly analyzing him for a moment before continuing to speak "you seem tired, let's just get you home so you can rest up, i've heard sleep is quite important for humans; and sometimes the conditions here are less than adequate" as he finishes speaking as he walks behind Cain and clips a metal chained necklace with some sort of crystal hanging from it, it hangs loosely around his neck, and is very similar to ones he's seen before though he doesn't know what the use is. Viktor waits as Cain stands up before offering his hand "this might tingle a bit but it won't hurt at all" he says as he finds a remote out of his pocket and clicks some coordinates into it. Cain is hit with a shock as his vision slowly fades out to black.
He's not sure how much time has passed, has it been hours? Days? Or just a few minutes. regardless he refuses to open his eyes even while being awake hoping if he keeps laying there the pounding in his head will stop; before long viktor walks in and kneels next to the bed Cain is laying on
"You're awake, that's perfect. i am terribly sorry but as it turns out the transporter isn't intended for your biology, the… pain will go away if you behave as normal" viktor says lifting Cain's body into an upright position, cain tries to fight back but the pounding in his head leaves him too weak to do anything; Viktor soon hands him a glass of water with some sort of crystalline particulate in it and says to him in a sweet almost manipulative tone "drink up, you will feel better if you finish the glass, and you will get used to the transporter, but until then i will leave you to yourself, allow you to adapt to your new environment"
Viktor walks out of the room and locks the door from the outside, though Cain is too out of it to notice. A few moments pass while he's in this state until he eventually forces the glass to his lips, the drink tasting like some cough syrup amalgamation, which he doesn't mind really.
It sits heavy in his stomach as the pain slowly dissolves out of his head, though his body still aches slightly as he takes in his surroundings. The room is small, not much of note except for a locked study desk, adjacent to his bed, he stands up slowly and walks over to it and notices a note on the wooden surface, it reads "I styled the room like a human guest bedroom, hope you like it :)"
He leaves the note untouched and looks at the lock on the cabinet, noticing the glass panels have been replaced with the same force field that was used in his jail cell, he also notices the lock; his mind jumps to an idea and he starts to look around for anything he could use to pick it, eventually he finds a wire and a letter opener which he assumes will suffice. After a few attempts and many moments he hears a click. He grabs the handle and opens the cabinet door as his eyes gloss over its contents, it's mostly papers and books in a language he can hardly understand, but he does notice one interesting item, a small metal box. He takes the box, noticing how it feels heavy in his hands as he sets it down on the desktop. He's silent for a moment as he tries to hear if viktor will be making any surprise visits to his room, once he is satisfied that it's safe to keep snooping he opens the box and is met with a military award, from what little of the language he knows he can tell its an award for espionage. Not only that but it's for viktors services in earth's first galactic war. Cain stares in shock for a moment before it finally dawns on him that the man he is being forced to live with and love, took part in killing thousands of his fellow soldiers, the men he trained with did everything with since the day he was drafted at 17. He throws the metal to the floor and runs to the door but stops short of touching the handle, he has to play this right. He goes back to sit on his bed and thinks for a moment, or perhaps longer he's lost track. Eventually his thoughts stumble into a plan of murder, he'll go out there, play along, and when Viktor least expects it he'll slice his throat open; the sudden rush of adrenaline, or perhaps the medication that was in the glass makes him jump out of the bed, manically searching for something, anything sharp enough to make the final blow, before long he finds that same letter opener and hides it in the waist of his pants. Taking a deep breath he turned back to the door, almost as soon as his hand touched the door Viktor snapped it from him, opening it to reveal a shirtless version of himself which towers over Cain.
"I see your feeling better? Would you like to sit out here with me now? We can get to know each other" Viktor says in that same shimmery yet manipulative tone. Cain stares up at him and feels himself blush, though he doesn't know why exactly, "Sure, your home is very nice…" Cain says as Viktor leads him into the living room, and down onto the couch where he lays his arm across Cain's shoulder; they sit there in an awkward silence for a moment before Viktor slowly moves his free hand to Cain's thigh, right above the knee. Cain's breath quickens as he remembers his plan, in a flash he grabs Viktors arm and twists it, using all his strength to pull him into a headlock. Viktor struggles but is unable, or unwilling to free himself. Cain slowly reaches down to the waistline of his pants and pulls out the letter opener, quickly moving it against Viktors neck
"Explain the metal i found in the cabinet you fucking perveted subhuman bastard" Cain says in a deranged, highly unstable sounding tone.
"Oh, that. You can't be upset. I did nothing wrong, fighting to win is just… a part of my culture, but your past was told to me. how we might have this conflict. I decided to take you anyways, you're just too cute not to." Viktor says as he grabs Cain's hand, his superior strength easily breaking his grip against his neck and quickly taking the much weaker man's hands and gripping them tight enough to leave marks, sufficiently subduing him.
Cain struggles hard against Viktor, but it's a futile battle, "so i'm just your plaything? I won't sit here, I won't let you take me for a fool, I won't let you get away with causing the death of my planet just because it gave you pleasure" Cain yells, still desperately trying to fight the much stronger alien off.
"It wasn't me who did a thing, all I did was follow orders, and if I could give advice, it would be to follow my orders. I don't want to kill you because it'd be so difficult to be paired again before the anniversary party of our victory, and it's extremely rude to show up in front of our lord without a paired partner. But if you give me no choice i will kill you." he says in a sickeningly calm tone slowly tightening his grip on Cain's wrists
"Your… lord? What do you mean by that, like. A God?" Cain says as he's hit in the head by a wave of confusion.
"No, not like a God in your human sense, our divine leader, and me being what your culture would call a war hero, I must go to a celebration of our victory 10 years ago, and it's unexpected for my people to not have a human companion, you will suffice." Viktor says, staring deep into Cain's eyes, almost into his soul.
"If you take me anywhere I'll kill everyone there. I can't take being around you perverts anymore. I won't let this keep going if it fucking kills me" Cain is in tears as he says this, which is odd for him since he hasn't cried since he was first captured. At this same moment Viktor has a thought, he's somewhat sick of his now mundane life, he misses the adventure, the blood and guts of his past job and he's heard rumors that there are planets out there uninhabited by either his people or humans. He thinks about his wording for a moment before saying slowly and calmly "If it would make you happy… we could kill our lord, the man who locked you up for years. I'm sure it would be possible, and it's something I've wanted to do for a while now."
As he says this Cain's expression softens for a moment, despite the shocking nature of the statement hearing Viktor say it makes him feel warm, "you want to kill your own leader? You're stupid if you think I believe that bullshit"
He says both insulted and unsure of viktors intentions before continuing.
“Like, you're a war hero, you're celebrated by your people, and you want to kill the war criminal who made it all happen? And for what? You probably just want the hot seat for yourself, that's how you people are.” he says with that same angry tone.
"Me wanting to take the throne? No, the reason is too difficult for me to explain in English; and to a human, especially such an unstable one." Viktor says giving Cain a sort of side eye.
“So you expect me to commit probably a ton of crimes, and get into serious trouble for killing a major leader in the galaxy… just because you told me to? For fucks sake you wont even tell me the reason.”
Cain says as he starts to cool off a little but, he feels weird talking to Viktor, the closer their bodys get the worse the fact that they were paired makes him feel, he can't decide if it turns him on or makes him want to be sick. This thought lingers in his mind before Viktor starts speaking again, this time in a more compassionate tone; though it feels forced since it's not what he's accustomed to. “If I must, I'll try my best to explain it: He is inexperienced, unstable, unpredictable… This act is in my direct interest. In doing this not only will I be a free man in the galaxy; but I'd also be preventing some invasive maneuvers he has planned for the near future that could lead to destruction. That is worth risking death, And if I do it right it’s not like I’ll die anyways.”
Cain stares at Viktor for a moment with wild confusion before Viktor notices and continues to speak, though this time in his usual tone. “Oh, yes, you don't know. As long as the brain survives my body can be reconstructed with metal and silica; well that and the crystals from my home planet” as he says this he fiddles with the green slightly speckled crystal hanging around his neck that serves as a transporter link.
They sit together in silence together for a small section of time before Viktor sighs and reaches for his shirt, putting it on as he walks away and into a room Cain can’t see the inside of. Though he can hear the lock click as the door falls shut.
Hours pass with no signs of Viktor, though Cain isn’t upset, it gives him an opportunity to explore the house he views as nothing more than a containment cell. The interior of the house seems to be a strange mix of decor, some having the most perfect angles you could ever imagine, interlacing together perfectly like pieces to a puzzle; while other parts seem to be very out of date, particularly the yellow and orange floral wallpaper that lines the room along shag carpet at his feet, normally he would complain, or feel insulted by the gross generalization of human culture but he has to admit he find it comforting for a reason he can’t decipher. The setting sun glistening through the window rips him out of his thoughts before he realizes he should probably at least try to eat something, He doesn't want to commit galactic crimes on an empty stomach.
About fifteen more minutes pass before Viktor walks out and notices Cain, who's sitting back down on the same couch he started on. now with an apple in hand, slowly cutting slices out of it with a pocket knife. Before Cain has the chance to say anything viktor chimes in with that same shimmery tone Cain knows all too well, “come here, I want to show you something”
Cain doesn't feel like putting up a fight, nor does he really think he could win a fight against the 7 '1 half automaton alien. So he reluctantly stands up and walks into the room viktor once had himself locked in and is shocked once his mind processes what he's seeing, wall to wall filled with armor, ammo, and weaponry, with a specific few pieces set on the ground in the middle of the room; he stares at viktor with a mix of amazement and fear, looking like a deer in the headlights with the words kicked out of him. “What is… all this meant to be? I hope all the time you spent in here you were making a plan and not just laying shit out” Cain finally says somewhat worried about what he's going to be asked to do.
“Of course I have a plan, it's even quite simple…we start by having more weaponry than the enemy, as a precaution. And when we get to the reception, sneak into the kitchens and poison the lord's wine," Viktor says in a way that makes it seem like this is the easiest plan in the galaxy.
Cain knows that Viktor is leaving at least a few important details out, but he doesn’t mention it, instead he just looks at him with an unamused and suspicious expression before speaking “and you expect that to work?...Not like it even really matters, you’ll just take me along anyways”
As Cain says this he slowly makes his way back into the doorway, seemingly wanting to be able to run for it if he feels he has to. Viktor notices this and tries to make himself seem less threatening, making his way to the floor and sitting down in the thick shag carpet. Cain feels a twinge of what can only be described as longing for the alien in front of him, he ignores his better judgment and cautiously moves to sit close next to Viktor. He doesn't understand the urge to be so close to him, He pushes it out of his mind. trying to do away with it completely as he focuses on trying to find a way to salvage the situation and make sure at least he lives through tomorrow night.
The next time we see Cain he's back in that same room full of artillery; near naked as he straps the kevlar vest onto his chest, before reaching down to his ankle and strapping the holster for the small wooden handled knife onto himself. A few moments pass and after putting on the remaining pieces of his suit, he holds his floral tie in his hand looking at it with an unsure expression. Viktor notices the man’s uncertainty and walks over to him, and kneels down so that he's at eye level with Cain.
“Would you like help?” he says, in what seems like the first time he's shown genuine care for Cain; tone somewhere between a father and a lover.
Cain only gives a sheepish ashamed nod as a response while handing Viktor the tie, he's very careful as he wraps it around Cain's neck, avoiding causing him any discomfort.
As Viktor does this Cain feels his heart flutter with excitement, he doesn't know why but every time he sees Viktor he feels a warm feeling in his chest. His thoughts wander more and more as Viktor finally finishes fiddling with the tie making sure it lays perfectly. As this moment passes they stare at each other, both knowing in their hearts that this may be the last time they see each other under calm circumstances.
After what feels like hours but in reality is more akin to a few minutes pass Viktor finally breaks the silence
“We…should get going, I would ask if you were sure you wanted to do this but you have no choice” as he says this he stands up and puts some information into the same remote Cain saw a few days ago though from the angle he’s at he can’t see the coordinates being put in.
Almost as soon as he realizes this he’s met with that familiar shock before black slowly encroaches in on his vision and he passes out.
Cain doesn't know where he is, or how long it's been. He can hardly think over the pain in his head, and despite how he hates VIktor he takes comfort in him as he sinks deeper into his arms. Viktor takes note of this and brushes the wet hair out of the smaller man's face and stares at him for a moment, he really hopes this all works out.
The scene stays like this until Cain's eyes open as he lifts himself out of Viktors grasp, feeling a wave of shame wash over him.
“I’m…sorry i didn’t mean to, I-“ Cain tries to say, but before he can finish Viktor puts his hand over his mouth.
“Shhh…you are ok, but we can’t talk now. I’m going to give you something, ok?” Viktor says, seemingly returning to his usual harsh shimmery tone before taking out a small vial of crystalline liquid and using his body to restrain him, feeling Cain's too hot body temperature against his cold skin. Viktor waits for his body to resign himself into a state of forced calm before removing his hand from Cain’s face, and rearranging it in an attempt to pry his mouth apart, he succeeds with ease and swiftly pours the vial down Cain’s throat.
Cain coughs as he tries to push VIktor off of himself, though in the deep recesses of his mind he knows it's a futile attempt. He continues to fight back before the substance Viktor forced on him starts doing its job, the pounding in his head stops and his body temperature slowly makes its way back to normal. As this happens Viktor loosens the grip he has on Cain and allows him to make his way to his feet, Cain quickly gets up as he realizes where he is. he's in some sort of resting area, its small featuring only a vintage styled couch with a blanket laid upon the back, and an end table in the corner.
“Hey hey…calm down don't look so…deer in the headlights, it’s alright you're ok now. Just calm down, I was only trying to help you.” VIktor says, noticing how afraid he looks, even more than Cain himself realizes.
Cain doesn't say anything in return, instead moving to the couch while trying to ignore Viktor and his own thoughts. Viktor notices Cain’s deep uncomfort with the situation but doesn't press him on it, choosing instead to move to sit next to him.
Despite how much Cain despises the warm thoughts he has about Viktor, he appreciates the gesture. They only get a moment of calm before a harsh knock on the door crashes them back to the reality of the situation.
“You ok in there? It’s been half an hour, other people need to use these rooms” the same man who knocked on the door says, in a cold, uncaring, almost militant tone.
Viktor quickly stands up checking over himself and Cain to make sure all their weapons are concealed before responding.
“yes…yes we are just about ready to leave” he says as he pulls Cain to his feet and turns the lock on the door, their hands unconsciously interlocking as they walk out of the cramped room.
Upon exiting they’re met with an even more cramped hallway leading to a hexagonal room. Door frames with winding cramped hallways beyond line the room. And ornate pillars hold up the leaded crystal ceiling. Every part of the room looks as though it was cut with a laser.
At the same time as Cain notices the architecture he also notices the leashes being used by the more alien guests to keep their human companions at an arm's reach. Viktor notices How uncomfortable Cain looks and moves his mouth near his ear before speaking in a quiet breathy tone “I think they’re happy for the most part…many humans don't mind it. And do be quiet, this is delicate which is something you aren't good at.”
Cain, who is clearly upset with how nonchalant Viktor is about the way his people treat humans; pushes his face away before responding in an attempt to get the last word. “fine. you wouldn’t do anything to help if they weren’t though”
Even with him saying this he can tell Viktor is right deep down, and he doesn't want to argue, not like he could since Viktors made it clear that they can’t.
About 30 minutes pass and they have mingled their way to the back of the room, successfully maneuvering around waiters toting drinks and other couples looking for socialization. Though one issue still remains, after finding the entrance to the kitchens they notice the room is guarded by a similar looking alien to the one that was outside the room they first arrived in.
Victor sees an opportunity “You will stay here for a moment…drink, be merry, blend in. I will be back in 15 minutes, do not draw suspicion to yourself” Viktor says as he puts his mouth close to Cain’s, giving him a light kiss. Before Cain is even able to realize what happened he's lost sight of Viktor in the sea of chattering Aliens and their servants.
The scene changes to Viktor, who is sipping a drink in the corner adjacent to his partner. He enjoys the taste despite alcohol having no effect on him; though he does wish they imported at least one of the stimulants from his home planet. It would’ve made the party marginally better. After tipping the last of the glass's contents into his mouth he takes a deep breath, finding it in himself to put a look of concern onto his face before he finds himself in front of the guard. Once there he notices the look of contempt on the guard.
“Officer, could you spare a moment?“ VIktor says in his native language, though for the sake of the book I’ve translated it.
The guard rests his hand on his holster before sharply delivering a retort “speak fast I don't got all the time in the world.”
“Well…it’s simple you see? I was just looking for a waiter… so I could have another drink or three; and somehow I wandered into a storage closet and lost my transporter remote…” Viktor says, doing his best to seem helpless, confused, and most importantly, adorable.
His attempt works, and the guard lets out a heavy sigh as he begins to follow VIktor through the crowded room and to a door that leads to something you couldn’t even really call a room, they both duck down on the way in to avoid a supportive beam smack in the forehead. The guard stays silent as he flicks the lights on, using it to scan the room until something hidden under a shelf glimmers back at him. Unable to tell if it's a bit of scrap metal or the ever important transporter remote, he moves to his hands and knees. Trying to reach under the shelf or at the least get a better view of the object. Viktor notices the guard and his vulnerable position. He unsheathes his knife, knowing this is his one chance. Not even a second after this realization the knife he was holding was already sunk into the guard's neck, Blood starts to trickle and pool around the guard, Viktor seems totally unaffected by the gorey scene and the dead alien in front of him. Instead he quickly but calmly searches his pockets, eventually taking out a small towel that he uses to wipe the blood off of himself and the knife.
He's again made sure all his weapons are concealed and the now bloodied rag is tucked in the dark corner of his coat that it came from. Before leaving he grabs the Guards wrist, checking his pulse and seeing that he's bled out. Then picking up and placing the no access sign that was half hazardly left on the shelf by one of the clearing crew on the door as his last act in the room.
Realizing the time, and that it took him a little longer than expected to deal with the guard. He quickly walks back to where he last saw Cain, hoping that his partner hasn’t moved even an inch. When Viktor finally spots him he sees the shorter man holding what seems to be his 3rd glass of wine, Viktors sighs at the potential drunkenness that he's going to deal with while walking up to him. Though despite Cain's brash personality he has to admit that he's quite cute with the alcoholic flush that's covering his face.
